Garlic, pork mince, Thai holy basil, fish sauce and red chili. That is all you need to make this lovely rich authentic Thai basil pork recipe! You will just adore this authentic pad kra pao.
This Thai basil pork is yet another reason why I am so fond of Asian cuisine.
I could truly eat it every day! The richness of fresh flavors is so overwhelming in Thai food recipes. It is so different from the classic European cuisine I grew up with and because of that I love Thai cuisine to bits.
Thai food is such a blessing for my European taste buds.
They can handle a spice kick!
Thai Basil Pork Stir Fry (Pad Kra Pao)
This Thai basil pork recipe is pretty straight forward.
Pork mince, red chili, Thai holy basil, also a couple of well known condiments to spicy things up even more. The only challenge while making this dish in the past was the fact that Thai holy basil was hard to find around where I live.
And finding a worthy alternative for Thai holy basil is an even harder challenge because Thai basil has a very particular peppery flavor. Before you say anything: it hasn’t got anything to do with the popular Italian basil we all know.
However in the last 2 Asian supermarkets have opened close by, and they both offer fresh Thai holy basil.
Cooking Thai
How often do you cook Thai at home for dinner?
I used to stick to curries only a long time ago.
Another recipe that make often, is green papaya salad or Thai som tum. That is if I can find green papaya or mango at my local Chinese supermarket.
Ground meat
Don’t you eat pork?
You can easily replace the ground pork and use ground chicken instead. In fact, Thai basil chicken is also a Thai classic that you can find everywhere. There it is called pad kra pao gai.
Serve this basil pork with steamed rice and a fried egg on top.
