Ingredients

  • 1 large green cabbage (about 3 lbs or 1.35 kg)
  • 1.3 lbs ground beef or a beef‑pork mix (600 g)
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup cooked rice (185 g)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 2 cups tomato sauce (480 ml)
  • 1 cup broth vegetable or beef (240 ml)
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. 1) Preheat your oven to 180°C.

  2. 2) Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them for 2–3 minutes until soft and pliable. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3) In a bowl, combine the ground meat, onion, garlic, cooked rice, egg, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is evenly combined.

  4. 4) Lay a cabbage leaf flat, add a spoonful of filling to the center, fold the sides inward, and roll tightly. Repeat with the remaining leaves.

  5. 5) Heat olive oil in a pan and lightly sear the rolls for extra flavor (optional but recommended).

  6. 6) Place the cabbage rolls in a baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce and broth over the top.

  7. 7) Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes to thicken the sauce.

  8. 8) Let them rest for a few minutes before serving so the flavors settle.
