Have you ever thought of making roasted pears? Then you should definitely try out these roasted soft pears that I topped off with crumbled pecan nuts and parmesan cheese! And what a great Thanksgiving vegetable side dish this is!
I have to be honest here.
Well I have never been a huge fan of warm fruit dishes before. However I did give it another try this time, because my husband enjoys side dishes like that. And I have to admit that these roasted pears below were a surprisingly appetizing side dish.
Savory Fruit Side Dish
I’m not sure why I liked it.
But I guess it’s that savory touch coming from the earthy pecan nut crumble and then also that grated parmesan cheese makes this dish a little saltier.
And my palate seems to like that combo!
I just didn’t want to end up with a very sweet side dish. That’s why I added that salty layer on top.
And the hubs, what did he think of this dish?
Well he definitely liked it!

There are several types of pears: check this interesting article on Live Eat Learn!
Go for one that is fit for cooking and warming up. Because some pears might fall apart and loose their sugar content and flavor. I suggest you go for Anjou pears, Bosc pears or Bartlett pears.
Not really sure which ones you should use?
Better visit a farmers market and ask the people of the fruit stall. That’s what I always do. For any type of fruit, if I want to cook it. They know what’s best. I have always been helped by them, the fruits that they suggested were spot on for my recipes.

Easy Oven Roasted Pears Recipe

Roasted Pears: soft pears topped with crumbled pecan nuts and parmesan cheese! What a great Thanksgiving side dish this is then!
- 2 pears for cooking
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese grated
- 4 fresh sage leaves
- 2 tbsp pecan nuts
- olive oil
- pepper
- salt
-
Add the handful of pecan nuts to a clean blender. Pulse the pecan nuts quickly until you end up with a fine crumble and then set this aside until needed later on in the recipe.
-
Slice the pears lengthwise in half and core them. Leave the stems on (only for presentation because it looks nicer). Place the 4 pear halves in a large baking dish with their cut sides up. Then drizzle the halves with a generous splash of olive oil. Season with a good dash of freshly ground black pepper and a little sprinkle of salt. Place a fresh sage leaf on each pear.
-
Sprinkle the pears evenly with the pecan nut crumble from the blender you put aside. Then sprinkle them with the grated parmesan cheese.
-
Bake the pears in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20 to 25 minutes or until almost soft and cooked through. Remove the pears, place them on a clean dish and serve them lukewarm.
